PICTURE MARK McKEOWN: Tauranga boxers Anthony Taylor, left, and Dave Aloua-Rogers have qualified for next month's Commonwealth Cup in India.

Twelve years after coaching his younger brother Robbie to the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Tauranga trainer Chris Walker has two more fighters on the cusp of games selection.

National heavyweight champion Dave Aloua-Rogers and comeback king Anthony Taylor have earned spots in an eight-strong New Zealand team to compete in the prestigious Commonwealth Cup next month.

The tournament in Delhi involves the leading Commonwealth countries and is a shakedown for the 2010 Games in October.

The Tauranga Boxing Club duo fought an exhausting day of trial bouts in Auckland, with Taylor - unranked after sitting out most of last year - winning all three of his fights and Aloua-Rogers both of his.

A third Tauranga boxer, Gunnar Jackson, was beaten on points in his opening middleweight bout against former national champion Nathan McEwan (Blackball).
