Bay of Plenty skipper Jono Boult is prepared to throw convention out the window  and give his four-prong seam attack first use of the ball if he wins the toss in tomorrow's Hawke Cup challenge against Manawatu in Palmerston North.

Hawke Cup convention dictates teams winning the toss usually bat first and long but Boult has always marched to his own tune.

"We've got four really good seamers in Te Ahu (Davis) and Trent (Boult), who've both played plenty of first class cricket, as well as Chopper (Campbell Wilson) and Tony Goodin, so our strength this weekend is definitely with our bowling.

"It's hard to make a definite call until we  have a look at the pitch, which is supposed to be good for batting on, but  I'd be leaning towards having a bowl first if we get the option with the quality seam attack we've got.

"My way of captaining is to know what we're chasing. We don't have to win outright so first innings will do, but whatever the outcome (with the toss) the boys are real pumped."
