Your View: Will shark sightings keep you out of the water?
The fatal shark attack at Muriwai Beach this week has failed to deter beach-goers and surf club members from taking a dip.
Papamoa Surf Life Saving Club club captain Shaun Smith said club members were out in force in the water, training for the NZ Surf Life Saving Championships next week.
"No, it hasn't really had an impact on us. It's just one of those freak things that gets everybody going."
Mr Smith said there did not appear to be any less general public on the beaches as a result of the attack.
But now with the lifeguard duty season having ended during the week, the real evidence of this would be known this weekend when volunteer lifeguards take duty.
We'd like to know what you think. Will shark sightings or stories of shark attacks keep you out of the water?
Do you think that the sharks in Bay waters are fairly innocent?
Do you have any tips to avoid shark encounters?
