A 53-year-old Pongakawa woman is in a stable condition in the orthopaedic ward at Tauranga Hospital after being crushed by a cow last Wednesday.

She sustained spinal, leg and arm injuries.

Friend and Pukehina fire chief Errol Watts said she had surgery last week and was in a halo brace.

He believed more surgery was scheduled for this week.

The TrustPower TECT Rescue Helicopter was called to the farm after a cow jumped off the loading ramp of a cattle truck and landed on the woman.
