Sergeant Warren Shaw has appealed this morning for information from anyone who saw the late model sedan driving in the Whatawhata or Te Pahu areas late yesterday afternoon.

The male driver, who is yet to be identified, died at the scene.

He had failed to negotiate a bend and crashed into a tree on Te Pahu Rd, south of Whatawhata in the Waikato, about 4.55pm, police said.

The car was travelling south between Whatawhata and Te Pahu at the time.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating the crash.

Anyone with information should phone Te Awamutu Police on 07 872 0141.
