Pupils and families from the Western Heights Primary School community have donated 220 items of food to The Daily Post Christmas Appeal for the Salvation Army foodbank.

Susan Freeman, who works as a teacher aide at the school, said a notice was sent home with all the pupils and she put notices out in the community asking for donations.

Ms Freeman said she was very pleased with the response.

Meanwhile, Lake Okareka Preschool has donated 66 items of food collected by the children and their families.

The Waikite Valley Women's Institute has given 28 items of food while Rotorua resident Donna Flavell has donated $20.

Donations to The Daily Post Christmas Appeal for the Salvation Army foodbank can be made at our Hinemoa St office between 8am and 5pm on weekdays. People can donate money or non-perishable food.

Food donations can also be made at the Salvation Army's Community Ministries at Community House on Haupapa St.
