A 16-year-old man has been charged in relation to the armed holdup of the Welcome Bay Foodmarket in August.

Police allege the youth was one of two masked offenders armed with pistols who entered the store on the evening of August 23, and demanded money from the store owner before fleeing on foot.

The teenager was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery after Tauranga police including members of the armed offenders squad executed two search warrants in Welcome Bay yesterday.

The teenager, who has automatic name suppression because of his age, appeared in Tauranga District Court yesterday and has been remanded on bail.

He is due back in court on November 26.

Police say they are actively seeking the second alleged gunman and are asking people who have any information to call Tauranga Police CIB on 07 577 4300.

Alternatively information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
