A screwdriver and a hammer were used in a fight between two people at a house next door to a childcare centre yesterday.

Children were at Opeys Education and Care Centre when the tussle broke out about 2pm in Darraghs Rd, Otumoetai.

Tauranga police Senior Sergeant Carl Purcell said there were no children at the house where the pair were fighting, but its proximity to the childcare centre sparked an urgent police response.

The weapons were dropped during the altercation, and no one was injured.

An 18-year-old Mount Maunganui man was arrested.

A spokesperson from the childcare centre declined to comment.
