Waikato Police are seeking the public's help in locating a man wanted on parole recall warrant who is described as dangerous and, they warn, should not be approached.

Hamilton Tactical Coordinator, Senior Sergeant Freda Grace, said since May 2000 34-year-old Te Aroha man Cameron Lee Ashby had amassed a disturbingly violent criminal history.

"Sentenced to 10-years-imprisonment in 2005 Ashby was released on parole but has since breached his parole conditions. He also has a history of carrying firearms and/or knives and anyone who recognises him is warned not to approach him but to ring 111 immediately."

Ashby is described as a male Maori of medium build about 180cm tall. He has known connections in the Hamilton, Waihi, Paeroa and Karangahake Gorge areas.

Anyone with information on Ashby's whereabouts is asked to contact Ms Grace at the Hamilton Central Police Station on 07 858 6200.

Alternatively information can be left anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
