Waikato Expressway disruption
Te Rapa section of the Waikato Expressway, from the Wairere Interchange to the Horotiu Interchange, will be affected by road works and sealing until March 30.
The New Zealand Transport Agency's Waikato Expressway principal project manager Richard Young says initial work will be between the North Island Main Trunk Rail Bridge and Te Kowhai Bridge and involve laying the second coat of chip seal on the four-lane expressway.
Traffic management will be in place and a 30km/h speed restriction will apply in the areas being sealed and on areas of loose chip.
Motorists can use Te Rapa Rd as an alternative during this time," Mr Young says.
Sealing is part of the planned stages to finish the road. The first coat was applied before the road opened in December. The second coat seal is applied before the first winter to ensure the road is water proof before the final seal is applied.
The final surface, a smooth and quiet surface, open grade porous asphalt, will be laid late this year.
