School children involved in Kaimai crash

UPDATED 11.33am: School children were among those involved in a two-car collision in the Kaimai Ranges this morning.

Western Bay of Plenty head of road policing Senior Sergeant Ian Campion confirmed Tauranga Intermediate children camping in the area were involved in the crash at the intersection of State Highway 2 and Ngamuwahine Rd.

Mr Campion said he understood that no children were injured in the crash and school staff were at the camp site carrying out inquiries to confirm that no children were hurt.

Children from Tauranga Intermediate have been camping at Ngamuwahine Lodge this week as part of their end of year activities.

Police were still at the scene establishing the cause of the crash this morning.

EARLIER: A police spokesperson confirmed that emergency services responded to a crash between two cars on SH29 at the intersection of Ngamuwahine Rd in the Kaimais.

The accident happened at approximately 9.15 this morning and both police and St John ambulance attended.

A female driver has been taken to hospital.
