Truck accident on busy Bay road

Western Bay drivers are being urged to travel with caution this morning after a truck has broken down on a busy Bay road.

The truck has broken down in the Mount Maunganui/Tauranga-bound lane on Maunganui Rd, between Girven Rd and Hewletts Rd, in Mount Maunganui.

Police have been called to the accident, which happened about 7.45am this morning.

Tauranga police Senior Sergeant Carl Purcell said one lane has been closed while the truck was being dealt with.

"Traffic is down to one lane and motorists are warned to expect delays for the next hour," he said.

Mr Purcell urged motorists to drive carefully around the area.

The closed lane is expected to reopen about 9am.
