The trial for three people accused of manslaughter after two Tauranga sisters died in a smash in Welcome Bay in 2011 was to begin in Hamilton High Court today but has been delayed until Wednesday.

The girls' mother, Phillipa Morehu, 37, Hetaraka Hikurangi Reihana, 20, and Haki Davey, 18, face two joint counts of manslaughter relating to the deaths of Merepeka Morehu-Clark, 14, and her 13-year-old sister Brooklyn Morehu-Clark on Christmas Day 2011.

The girls were in the back seat of the vehicle driven by Reihana when it and a ute collided on Welcome Bay Rd.

The reason for the trial delay is unknown.
