A Mount Maunganui man accused of bashing two women who were hospitalised with head and facial injuries has had his committal to trial adjourned until later this month.

Phillip Wapatene Hunter, 29, who briefly appeared in the Tauranga District Court this morning faced two charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Hunter is accused of brutally beating two women, aged 22 and 39, during an altercation at a Carter St, Arataki address on July 2.

It is further alleged that one of the woman also suffered a fractured right ankle while making her escape through a window at the house.

Judge Merelina Burnett granted the request to adjourn the case and further remanded Hunter in custody without pleas until September 25.
