A traffic light glitch mid-way along Hewletts Road caused traffic gridlock in Mount Maunganui this morning.

A spokesperson from Police Northern Communications said the lights were staying green for a minute before changing, causing traffic to build-up across the Tauranga Harbour Bridge.

A motorist also told the Bay of Plenty Times there was traffic gridlock at the Maunganui Road, Golf Road roundabout.

The lights were working normally again by 10.08am, the spokesperson said.
