A total fire ban has been announced for the Western Bay.

With no predictions of meaningful rain forecasted the New Zealand Fire Service has recommend Tauranga City Council implement a total fire ban in conjunction with the ban being imposed across the Western Bay Moana Rural Fire District.

The Tauranga City total fire ban is effective from 6am February 22. It will last until further notice.

The fire ban means that with the exception of gas fuelled fires, no open fire will be permitted in Tauranga City.

Anyone who sees smoke or fire should immediately call 111 and ask for the fire service.
