Today is Census day.

Statistics Minister Maurice Williamson said the Government needed to know how many people there were in each part of the country in order to make informed funding decisions for hospitals, roads, public transport, kohanga reo and other public services.

He encouraged people to fill out their forms online as it was quick, easy and secure.

Anyone who had not received their census forms and internet access code should phone 0800 236787.

We are looking to speak to someone locally who is unhappy about filling in census forms, or refusing to. Call us on 0800 253 253 or email your contact details to news@bayofplentytimes.co.nz
