A man was taken to Tauranga Hospital after a three-car collision at a notorious black spot involving five people.

A Te Puke St John spokesman said they were called to the crash, at State Highway 2 and Te Matai Rd, about 6.30pm yesterday.

The 50-year-old man was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Others were treated for other minor injuries at the scene.

At 11.30am a 40-year-old man suffered a serious leg injury when he came off a bike at a Pongakawa motorcycle park.

The intersection of SH2 and Te Matai Rd has been the location of several serious car crashes in recent years.
