Taxi attack accused granted bail

UPDATED 3.33pm:

The third man arrested following an aggravated robbery of a taxi driver has been granted bail.

The 19-year-old Tauranga man was granted interim name suppression when he appeared in Tauranga District Court this afternoon.

He was arrested today after a taxi driver was bashed and robbed on Matapihi Rd late last night.

The 19-year-old was granted bail of a raft of conditions until he is expected to reappear in court on October 4, joining his two co-accused.

UPDATE AT 1.29pm:

A third man has been arrested following the aggravated robbery of a taxi driver.

The 19-year-old is expected to appear in Tauranga District Court this afternoon, following the appearance of two other young men for the same incident.

UPDATE AT 10.49am:

The two young men arrested for the aggravated robbery of a taxi driver last night will remain in custody for at least another week.

Joshua Strickland, 21 and Tyson Duncan, 17, were each charged with aggravated robbery after a taxi driver was robbed of cash and an i-phone at Matapihi last night.

The two appeared in Tauranga District Court this morning but entered no plea.

Bail was opposed and the two were remanded in custody without plea until October 4.

EARLIER:

Police scoured the sea and beaches in and around Tauranga Harbour late last night after an aggravated robbery of a taxi driver.

Two young men have since been arrested this morning after police tracked a trail around the shore of Matapihi around to Tauranga's Harbour Bridge.

The incident occurred on Matapihi Rd about 9.30pm.

The 17 and 21-year-old are expectd to appear in Tauranga District Court today.
