Tiki Taane in running for top music award
Papamoa-based music artist Tiki Taane has been named a finalist in the 2011 Vodafone New Zealand Zealand Music Awards.
Taane received three VNZMA nominations including one for Best Male Solo Artist, which pits him against hip hop artist David Dallas and Australian Idol's Stan Walker.
Taane was also nominated for Best Electronica Album and Best Maori Album.
The Naked and Famous, Ladi6, Brooke Fraser, Avalanche City, Six60 and Kids of 88 also feature in the line-up.
The nominees were revealed last night in Auckland.
Other announcements included the winners of the Technical Award categories, in which Naked and Famous band members Thom Powers and Aaron Short took out two award wins, and the line-up for the Gravity Coffee Critics' Choice Prize which this year includes Kimbra, Popstrangers and The Unfaithful Ways. Kiwi band Dragon will the 2011 NZ Herald Legacy Award.
