Suspicious man arrested

File

Two quick thinking police officers arrested an alleged shoplifter with thousands of dollars of stolen goods in his car after seeing him acting suspiciously in a store.

Tauranga police Acting Senior Sergeant Cam Anderson said the officers were carrying out an unrelated routine inquiry when they noticed a man looking suspicious.

They followed him, ran a check on his car and stopped him near Sulphur Point about 3pm yesterday.

Between $5000 and $6000 of power tools stolen from Rotorua and Tauranga were allegedly found in his car.

A 39-year-old man was held in police custody overnight and will appear in Tauranga District Court today.
