Surf Life Saving's National Appeal officially starts this week with National Jandal Day taking place this Friday, December 7.

Proceeds raised will go towards training lifeguards, the purchase of rescue equipment and extending services to meet the growing needs of New Zealand communities.

Kiwis are encouraged to wear their favourite jandals on Friday and be part of the fun.

Donations can be made via the Jandal Day website, www.surflifesaving.org.nz or by texting the word ``surf'' to 4483 to make an instant $3 donation.

Customers at BP service stations can also round up their purchase price to support Surf Life Saving.
