Stamp Club celebrates 50 years

The Tauranga Stamp Club celebrated the club's 50th jubilee over the weekend, which included an exhibition of stamps at Baycourt.

It was the ideal chance for collectors and philatelists to buy, sell or swap rare and sought-after stamps to add to their own collections, as well as giving the general public the opportunity to learn more about this addictive hobby. That included viewing possibly one of the rarest stamps of its kind franked by Muirs Reef Post Office which was situated in the rural outskirts of Te Puke and owned by club secretary Brian Ducker.

During the celebrations there was also a number of guest speakers including a talk on Tauranga's history illustrated with post cards from Lawrence Eagle, a celebratory dinner and reunion at Classic Flyers and the issue of a special stamp featuring Tauranga's old Post Office.

The history of the club has been charted by Mr Ducker in a book that was also launched at the event. The Tauranga Stamp Club which meets twice a month has a membership of around 100.

It is keen to have new members join the ranks.
