A man has had a wooden stake pierce right through his arm in a sawmilling accident. Emergency services were called to Te Puke medical centre about 10am yesterday to work on the 38-year-old man.

Mount Maunganui St John operations team manager, Gary Bishell said: "He had a penetrating injury through his forearm where a piece of wood had stuck right through his arm, in one side and out the other."

Mr Bishell said the piece of wood was sticking out about 15cm on both sides of the man's arm. The man was today in Tauranga Hospital.
