A car was used to smash into a liquor store early today in a central city burglary.

The smash and grab occurred at a liquor store in Chapel St about 3am, Senior Sergeant Carl Purcell said.

Four men in their 20s were found and apprehended not long after the incident."

A short time later a vehicle was stopped which still had traces of glass on the bonnet and alcohol in the rear of the vehicle," Mr Purcell said.

The four men were charged with burglary and were expected to appear in Tauranga District Court today.
