SH29 open for the foreseeable future
State Highway 29 has been reopened and will stay open for the foreseeable future, roading authorities say.
The stretch of highway between Tauranga and Hamilton was closed two weeks ago after bad weather pummeled the Ruahihi Ranges, leaving slips and rocks across the road and large boulders teetering above.
New Zealand Transport Agency state highway manager Brett Gliddon said the works that had been going on to remove the hazards in the area were now completed.
"The blasting was reasonably successful over the weekend. We were just waiting for the rain to come through on Monday to wash the face, which it did. Everyone is satisfied that it's reasonably stable," Mr Gliddon said.
"Obviously if you have another storm come through, we will reassess it then but at this stage we are happy."
