Papamoa residents are being urged to ignore a flyer warning of a convicted sex offender living amongst them.

The flyer, delivered this week, called for parents to be aware of a young man who had been released into the community after being "jailed for sex assaults on children".

It claimed the man was living on Papamoa Beach Rd, opposite a block of shops, and warned he was "highly likely to strike again".

Papamoa police Sergeant Phil Gillbanks said the man had been briefly bailed to a house at the end of Papamoa Beach Rd but had since been moved to Hamilton.

Police were yesterday trying to determine who was responsible for the flyer, he said.
