Calling all would-be teen politicians, the hunt is on to find Tauranga's Youth MP for 2013.
Calling all would-be teen politicians, the hunt is on to find Tauranga's Youth MP for 2013.

Tauranga MP Simon Bridges is looking for a future leader as young people are invited to apply to be part of Youth Parliament 2013.

Can you see a future for yourself as an MP? Or are you are just curious about how parliament works? Here is your chance to have your voice heard and to experience first-hand how decisions are made that impact all of New Zealand.

Successful applicants will join 121 other youth MPs when they take over New Zealand's Parliament on July 16 and 17.

Mr Bridges is looking for applications from people aged 16-18 to represent the Tauranga Electorate.

"I want to hear from young people who are willing to get out and engage with the youth in their community to gather their views and represent them in Parliament," Mr Bridges said.

Applicants will need to submit an essay of 500 words answering the question "what will be a key challenge facing New Zealand in 2020".

The successful applicants will be shortlisted, and then interviewed by a panel before Tauranga's Youth MP is announced.

Anyone interested in becoming a Youth MP should contact Mr Bridges' office at 07 579 9016 or mptauranga@parliament.govt.nz or contact the Ministry of Youth Development at beheard@youthparliament.govt.nz.
