Search for climber at Mauao
A report of a man possibly falling off the rocks at Mauao saw Mount Maunganui surf lifesavers jump in an IRB (inflatable rigid boat) and search for the man from the water.
Surf lifesavers received the report about 6.30 last night from two women who had seen a man climbing on the rocks with no safety gear and thought he may have fallen off, general manager Glenn Bradley said.
A policeman on a quad bike also rode around the track looking for the man.
Neither search party found anyone hurt or in danger.
