Scrub fire warning

A scrub fire that threatened Oropi homes has sparked a warning from Greerton fire service to anyone lighting rubbish fires in the region's dry and windy conditions.

Firefighters were called to Pukemapu Rd at 11.30am yesterday after a rubbish fire got out of hand. The fire grew to about 20 x 10m before firefighters managed to put it out.

Station officer Paul van Kol said someone was burning rubbish when it got into some scrub.
