Santa run for KidsCan
On Wednesday the 5th of December people dressed in Santa suits will take to the streets in Tauranga, Hamilton, Rotorua, Whangarei, Auckland Central (Viaduct), Auckland South (Manakau), Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin for the 'Great KidsCan Santa Run'.
A similar event will be held in Taupo on Saturday the 1st December.
People of all ages will be dressed in full Santa regalia for the 2-3km run/walk which will benefit New Zealand children living in poverty.
Last year's event attracted 2,000 participants and the organisation is hoping to double the number of Santa's to 4,000 this year.
Shaun Collins from Lactic Turkey Events said "This is a great family event for people of all ages and levels of fitness. No training is required apart from donning a Santa suit, which is included in your entry fee! We have an early bird registration special this year which finishes on the 20th November. We're expecting a good turnout from Corporate teams - it's a great team building exercise with your workmates and some use it as an end of year bash!"
The KidsCan Charitable Trust is encouraging businesses, individuals, families and groups of friends to get behind the event. Participants can run it, walk it, skip it, hop it - finish it however they like.
Prizes will be awarded to the fastest male, female and child along with the best dressed adult and child Santa's and best all round corporate team at each event location.
KidsCan CEO Julie Chapman says "The event is a fun way to get into the Christmas spirit with friends, family or work colleagues whilst raising funds for a great cause"
