Ruined pump shuts local pool

Otumoetai Pool is closed today after small stones were found in the pool pump.

The pool was closed on Saturday after temperatures dropped significantly.

A Tauranga City Council spokesperson said the drop in temperature was caused by a fault in the bore recharge pump.

Over the weekend, contractors dug up the pump and found it was full of small stones.

The result was a broken shaft and destroyed pump.

It is not yet known when the pools will re-open.

Meanwhile, the Greerton Aquatic Centre will be closed from September 17 to October 12 while the pools are repainted.

The Clubfit facilities will remain open.

Work is also being done at Mount Hot Pools. The facility is currently being re-roofed.

It is expected this work will be completed by October 26.
