Records broken in the pool
Exciting times are being held at the swimming pool where NZCT AIMS GAMES athletes have smashed tournament records.
An Auckland swimmer broke two tournament records and unofficially New Zealand records last night at Baywave in Mt Maunganui, tournament director Vicki Semple said.
Bobbi Gichard from Tamatea unofficially broke a New Zealand record in the girls 200m backstroke division 2 race with a time of 2.19.57.
She also broke the current New Zealand record in the girls 100m backstroke division 2 race with a time of 1.03.55.
Nine tournament records were also broken in the pool last night.
A handful of individual swimmers stood out among the rest, including Thomas Wilson from Heaton Intermediate, who collected 9 gold medals, two silver medals and a bronze medal for his racing efforts.
Kyra Forrest, the only swimmer from Christchurch South, swam in 12 races and collected 10 medals.
She also broke a number of Canterbury records.
Ms Semple congratulated the success of the young swimmers.
She said the event went extremely smoothly thanks to Freda Delaney and Dianne Leonard for their "exceptional'' coordination of the event, and the many officials who volunteered.
