Raggamuffin preparations under way

Preparations for Raggamuffin 2013 are well under way as the city gets ready for an influx of reggae fans this weekend.

The annual reggae festival, which starts at the Rotorua International Stadium in Rotorua tonight, will attract tens of thousands of people to the event over the two days. The two-day festival will feature reggae and hip hop artists from New Zealand and the world.

Preparations were under way at the stadium when The Daily Post arrived.

Area manager for Compass Group Rob Prior said they would have 400 catering staff working at the event and there would be 35 food vendors offering a variety of food and drinks for Raggamuffin-goers.

They would have items including gourmet icecream, mussel and paua fritters, paella, kebabs, snapper and chips and more while also catering for people who were vegetarian, vegan or had dietary needs.

Mr Prior said when ordering the food and drinks for Raggamuffin he looked at previous events as well as feedback from festival-goers on Facebook. He was was confident they could cater for everyone at Raggamuffin.

"We shouldn't be running out of anything," Mr Prior said.

The line-up over the weekend includes DJ Sir-Vere, The Club Kings, Pacific Reggae Mix, Darky Roots, King Kapisi, Deach, Chad Chambers, Sammielss, DJ Poroufessor, Dubhead, Infared, Masive, Common Kings, Black Seeds, Zkabby Jams, Hot Rain ft Siaosi, Etana, Three Houses Down, The Green, Fiji, J Boog with special appearances by Monsta G, Brownhill featuring Swiss, Tomorrow People, Rebelution, Katchafire, Herbs, Ali Campbell's UB40, Toots and the Maytals and Lauryn Hill.

House of Marley and Coruba Gold Lounge VIP areas have sold out but there are some tickets available for the Pacific VIP zone on both days. Tickets are available from Ticketmaster.
