The Papamoa Patchers are a great club of ladies with a passion for quilting, needlework and patchwork as well as a big heart for the community.

Their second exhibition will be held at Mount College on July 13, 14 and 15.

"Our group started out with around 25 members six years ago, and at the moment we have over fifty ladies involved," says committee member Joy Douch. "Our oldest members are in their eighties but we have girls of all ages. We have some magnificent quilters, and we learn so much from each other.

"We meet twice a month at the Arataki Community Centre, and we often go on bus trips, organise get-togethers like high teas and a shared Christmas lunch, and we even go on retreats together. It's definitely a group where people feel at home, and we always have lots of laughs", she says.

Joy says that the group does much more than quilting. They also make handbags, make-up bags, and gifts.

The Papamoa Patchers have a great time together, but they are also very much involved with the community and help where they can.

They have made charity quilts to raise money for Christchurch and Canteen, and donated parcels for Women's Refuge and the children at Tauranga hospital.

It's a club with spirit, and this second exhibition is likely to be as much of a success as the last one. They endeavour to organise one every two years.
