Q&A with Glenys Woollard - Food

Mint Julep
Mint Julep

CAN YOU SUGGEST A REFRESHING NON-ALCOHOLIC DRINK TO SERVE AT A FAMILY GATHERING?

Try Lemon Mint Julep: dissolve 1 cup sugar in 2 cups hot water then add the juice of 6 lemons and a handful of fresh mint leaves. Stir well, cool and strain into a container.

Just before serving add 1 litre each of sparkling water and ginger ale. Alternately fill individual glasses with one third each of the lemon base, sparkling water and ginger ale. Garnish with thin lemon slices and sprigs of mint.

ARE STRAWBERRIES BEST STORED IN THE FRIDGE OR AT ROOM TEMPERATURE?

In the fridge unless you intend eating them the same day. But even refrigerated, strawberries are unlikely to keep for more than a day or two, so plan to use as soon as possible.

If you have the space, you'll get slightly longer storage by arranging the berries in a single layer on a dish lined with paper towels before covering and refrigerating.

Don't wash until shortly before serving, and hull after washing so they don't get waterlogged.
