Promising news for diabetics
A clinical trial has shown fresh olive leaf extract, prepared by Paengaroa-based company Comvita, improves the way insulin is secreted and works in overweight men.
Insulin that does not work effectively can lead to diabetes.
A range of health outcomes, including insulin responses among trial participants, were assessed.
The 47 overweight and middle-aged men took fresh olive leaf extract for 12 weeks as part of the trial, conducted by The Liggins Institute at The University of Auckland.
A brief outline of the findings was presented at the Comvita Science Symposium, recently held at the university.
