Staff research projects from the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic are going on public show this Friday.
The polytechnic's Taiorangahau Pacific Coast Applied Research Centre is hosting a one-day Research Expo.
Manager of the Taiorangahau Pacific Coast Applied Research Centre Dr Heather Hamerton said the first-time event aimed to showcase staff research to the public.
"We have an excellent programme available and guests will be exposed to some interesting and thought-provoking research," she said.
Academic staff presenting their research include Dr Michael Morris, who will present his research on sea lettuce in Tauranga Harbour, including new research on the Waimapu estuary.
Lynette Steele will talk about how the polytechnic prepares new tutors for their teaching role; celebrated Maori artist James Ormsby, will share findings from his collaborative art project SEEK, and Paul Winwood will discuss his conclusions on factors that affect the performance of strongmen.
The day runs from 9am-4.30pm, and includes a panel discussion on linking research to teaching and learning.
Professor Linda Tuhiwai Smith, Pro Vice Chancellor Maori at the University of Waikato, is the keynote speaker.
As a finale, the polytechnic's Laurie Steer will be MC for a Pecha Kucha presentation.
