Burglar caught

Updated 4.45pm:

A man seen breaking into a Tauranga house has been caught by police.

Quick thinking members of the public helped police catch the man who broke into a house on 18th Ave about 2.40pm today.

Senior Sergeant Rob Glencross said the offender had been caught and was in custody.

"He broke into a house and members of the public called us. He was located a short distance away."

Mr Glencross said dog units and all avaliable police staff were used to deal with the situation.
 

Earlier:

Police officers and dog units are looking for a man in the area around 18th Ave and Turret Rd.

A police Northern Communications spokesperson said a man was seen acting suspiciously in the area.
