Police horrified at actions of Tauranga youths
Police say a 15-year-old boy reached speeds of 130km/h in a stolen car during an early morning chase around Mount Maunganui.
A few hours later, about 3.30am yesterday, a group of drunk teens were lucky to survive a crash at Te Puna.
Senior Sergeant Glenn Saunders said police were horrified at the actions of the two groups of youths.
Police were yesterday still trying to establish which of the intoxicated 16-year-old boys was driving a car that crashed on Borrell Rd, Te Puna. One of the boys was taken to Tauranga Hospital with minor injuries.
A Honda Accord failed to take a right-hand bend, left the road and landed on its roof in a ditch.
A few hours earlier, the 15-year-old boy and two 14-year-old girls led Te Puke police on a pursuit to Mount Maunganui. Road spikes were laid but were unsuccessful and after about 10 minutes the chase finally stopped on a dead-end street.
Mr Saunders said the stolen car reached speeds of 130km/h on the open road and 60km/h in urban areas.
