Police chase man in Mt Maunganui

A man is believed to be caught after he ran from police through Mt Maunganui.

Tauranga police senior sergeant earlier confirmed to the Bay of Plenty Times police were in Mt Maunganui searching for a man.

A witness said police were pursuing the man in his "boy racer car",near Golf Rd about 11am this morning.

The witness said the car was "going fast" then lost control at the corner of Tui St and Ranch Rd.

A group of children at the scene said they were almost knocked off their bicycles by the car.

When the man lost control of the car, he jumped out of his vehicle and ran away from police on foot, the witness said.

Police chased the man through Mt Maunganui. It is believed they have now caught him.

The police dog squad are at the scene.
