A Tauranga man on the run after allegedly stealing a car and two guns from a Te Puna property was arrested last night.

Police arrested Anthony Wilson at a house in Glenfield, Auckland, about 8.45pm.

Wilson had been considered armed and dangerous and it is not known whether the armed offenders squad was involved in last night's arrest.

He was due to appear in the North Shore District Court this morning on charges of unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, possession of methamphetamine and possession of cannabis.

Further charges are possible.

Police started searching for Wilson after a silver 2003 Nissan Wingard stationwagon was stolen from a rural Te Puna property about 5.45am on Wednesday.

Two firearms - a .270 rifle and .22 riflen - and a small amount of ammunition were also taken.

Wilson, originally from Auckland, had been living in Tauranga for the past year.
