Rotorua's Visitor Safety Group launched a new fold-out pocket guide at the Holiday Inn  this week designed to help keep the city's visitors safe.

Rotorua District Council community safety projects officer Linda Johnston said the handy wallet-sized brochure
included safety tips, travel guides, a map of the central city and other useful information.

"It's designed so that visitors will find the information easy to follow and useful, and will keep it on-hand at all times.''

Funding from ACC and Treasure Rotorua contributed to the printing of 14,000 of the brochures. Copies are available from the City Focus, the i-SITE information centre, local accommodation providers and Hertz car rentals.

"We're also looking at ways of going electronic and linking the guide online to major events. A lot of visitors come to Rotorua for big events like Raggamuffin but stay with friends and family. By providing a link on the event's ticketing or information page more people will have access to the information contained in the brochure,'' Ms Johnston said.

The Visitor Safety Group includes representatives from Rotorua District Council, Rotorua police, local accommodation providers, rental car companies and information services.
