Partygoer plunges two storeys

A man fell two storeys on to a rubbish skip before landing on asphalt at a party in Tauranga's central business district last night.

The 19-year-old student had been drinking with friends at an upstairs flat in Wharf St about 11.15pm when he fell from a balcony and was heard hitting the plastic skip before landing on the ground.

He was unconscious when friends rushed to check on him.

A man who lived at the flat, who only wanted to be known as Logan said it was not clear if the man fell or jumped. He is understood to run across building tops as a hobby, which is called parkour.

His shoes were still lying next to the rubbish skip this morning.

Logan said a flatmate nearby heard him hit the ground.

"She heard a bang and looked over the balcony and he was down there," he said.

The distance between the waist-high concrete balcony and the skip is about five metres.

"We ran down there and he was just completely out of it. Then after about five minutes he moved."

St John Ambulance officers treated the student for a fractured wrist.
