Pair go bald for the cause

It started as a dare - but shedding hair for last weekend's Relay for Life cancer fundraiser became deadly serious for early childcare teachers Rebecca Vincent and Sharron Tilyard.

The pair, who work at Lollipops Educare Pembroke St child care centre, have both had close contact with friends and relatives struck down with the Big C.

Raewyn Cope, who runs the centre's kitchen, has had two bouts with cancer and was very supportive of taking part in Relay or Life - bald or not.

Raewyn has survived a brain tumour and a cancer of the thigh.

In the end, Rebecca and Sharron decided to take the clippers to each other's heads and involve children and parents in the experience. Sharron says the children took the experience in their stride.

All agreed going hairless suited them both - and imagine the savings on hair care products.
