Orca spotted at Main Mount Beach
Mount Maunganui residents were treated to an early morning surprise when two orca were spotted swimming off Mount Main Beach this morning.
The two orca were first spotted about 6am.
They were swimming about five metres from the shore.
A Mount Maunganui woman said the orca swam from Leisure Island-end of the the beach along to the Mount Maunganui surf club.
The orca continued to swim around the rocks of Mauao and out of sight.
"They were beautiful and big creatures. I was surprised by how close they were to shore. It was a good start to the day."
