Jelly wars, float parades and waterslides are all part of the fun during Bay of Plenty Polytech's orientation week.

Each day this week, the polytech is hosting a different activity to celebrate "O Week".

Yesterday students got into inflatable pools filled with jelly and wrestled each other to the ground, getting messy in the process.

Today, 400 students will be taking part in the annual street parade which will wind through Tauranga's city centre at 3pm.

Student experience co-ordinator Kirsten Crossan said the parade had been a part of polytech culture for years.

"It's been here forever, we've got staff that have been here for more than 20 years and they can't remember a year without it."

Jelly wrestling was another event back by popular demand.

"Every time we've planned not to have it, we get begged to put it back on. The students love it so much."

"O Week" celebrations aimed to help new students meet people and have fun outside the classroom.
