Car lovers enjoy perfect Beach Hop warm up (+photos)
The Waihi Warm Up Party proved to be an absolute sizzler yesterday with more cars, more people and heaps of fun.
Waihi closed its streets to normal traffic in preparation for the annual influx of cars.
The event is the lead-in to the Sony Beach Hop starting in Whangamata today.
Beach Hop classic cars and hot rods left Whangamata at 10am and were marshalled into the side streets once they arrived in Waihi. The cars filled the parking spaces, the roadway of the main street and spilled up around the old Waihi Pumphouse and on the edge of the Martha Pit rim.
A highlight of the day was the Drag Relay Race, which attracted seven teams this year.
