More delays in Waioeka Gorge

Supplied

More delays from are to be expected today on SH2 through the Waioeka Gorge between the Bay of Plenty and Gisborne.

A large amount of construction will build protection for the road from future rock falls and large slips.

The road itself will be widened and moved away from the hill that slipped, causing the road to close in early March.

Stop/Go traffic management begins today from 7.00am and 6.00pm.

Outside those hours the area will operate like a one-lane bridge with drivers giving way.

NZTA Bay of Plenty state highways manager Brett Gliddon, says work to get the road back to normal could until the middle of next year.
