Missing man in Parkvale area found - updated

Update: 3.45pm

A  78 year old male who suffers from dementia was reported missing by family members this afternoon.

Western Bay of Plenty Search and Rescue coordinator Sergeant Craig Madden said unbeknown to the man's family, a caregiver had picked up the male and taken him to a Christmas event which was out of his normal routine.

Mr Madden said the male was surprised at all the commotion when he was returned home this afternoon.

Mr Madden said Search and Rescue personnel were happy the man had been located safe and well.

The Tauranga Land Search & Rescue, the Tauranga Emergency Communication Group and Community Patrols were all involved assisting Police in the search.

Police have sent out a message to the press to say that the missing man has been found.

Earlier:

A 78 year old man is missing from the Roys Rd, Parkvale area.

He goes by the name Buddy, and was last seen at 6.30am this morning.

It is unknown what clothing he is wearing, but often wears a beanie.

He has diabetes and suffers from dementia.

Buddy is Maori, approximately 5'6", and of medium build.

Police are asking all resident on the Greerton area to check their sections for him
